For children entering kindergarten or first grade
All About Me

Children experience through movement, games, music and specific science activities how the parts and systems of their body "machines" work together. They will pay attention to ways their senses give them information about their environment.

My Environment

Children will explore the properties of water, follow things that crawl and observe plant growth like the young scientists they are. A number of environmental themes in the areas of botany, geology, zoology, daytime astronomy and hydrology are presented.

My World, Past & Present

Dinosaurs capture the imagination of the children as they learn relative sizes of these creatures. Children simulate fossils. They investigate the interaction of soil, plants, animals and water as they change over time.

For children entering second and third grade
Water Works/Underfoot

With Water Works, children become hydrology science detectives as they test, filter, analyze and map water in their neighborhood. They compare angles of trajectory for the big squirt and investigate designs for the most buoyant boat. In Underfoot, children take a closer look at what is around in the ground. They find out why some things grow best in certain soils. Children get up close and personal with their own worm farm; see how worms are affected by noise and light and calculate their movements and speed.

In the Air/Ecology & Me
Look Up with In the Air! Children use binoculars to compare the flight of birds with the technology of airplanes. They find out why a boomerang comes back to them and why a paper helicopter spirals downward. In Ecology and Me children ask how much impact they can have on their own world. They look at ways to solve some of the ecological problems of their environment.
For children entering fourth, fifth and sixth grades
The Green Scene/Up, Up and Away

What time could be better to explore the plant world than in the full bloom of summer with The Green Scene? Children will do minor plant "surgery," measure plant breathing, create a mini-environment and mix art and science into some surprising results. In Up, Up and Away, children will have high flying fun with kites, planes, balloons, and a UFO. They experiment with construction, balance, wind patterns, models and their own inventions.

The Good Earth/Energy

Children peek into the world of environmental changes to find the resources of their natural home and how to use them in The Good Earth. They will create their very own "rot" chamber, solar still, land fill and oil spill. With Energy, children take advantage of the summer sun to look at the power in a solar panel and a solar water heater. They find the "energy" in moving toys and put wind and water power to work.

Our Summer Programs are a perfect fit for summer camps and other summer enrichment activities. Programs for children entering kindergarten and first grade, second and third grade or fourth through sixth grade are structured as ten, three-hour sessions (30 hours of programming). Each topic includes hands-on materials for 15 children guided by an adult instructor and teen assistant.
